Redesigning New York Office Space

Redesign New York Office SpaceHow to Redesign New York Office Space

Does your New York office space need a redesign? Perhaps it’s been awhile since you first designed it, or perhaps your needs have changed and it’s simply time to adjust your space. Regardless, the impact of a workspace redesign is powerful.

But what if you have a limited budget?

While it’s possible to spend thousands of dollars on an office space redesign, it’s not necessary. Retaining a tight focus on your purpose and strategy allows you to creatively design a space that makes an impact — without blowing the budget.

Defining the Goal of the Office Space

Avoid exceeding your budget by defining your goals for the redesign. Think about what is working well in your existing space and what needs to change.

You might need more open space for collaboration, or partitions to create more quiet space for workers. When thinking about your goals, keep them in the context of what will enhance productivity while working with what you already have in place.

Redesign Office Space through Flexible Thinking

Get creative about your office space redesign. For example, wireless technology has freed the traditional workspace model. In fact, a recent study found that individual workspace is occupied less than 35 percent of the time. Therefore, you could have unassigned seating, allowing employees to move freely between desks, which means purchasing fewer new furniture pieces. This practice is sometimes called “hoteling”.

You could even look at eliminating entire work areas, repurposing those resources to higher productivity spaces. For example, companies that receive minimal front desk traffic may elect to eliminate the reception area.

Shift the Physical Elements

When redesigning your office space, start with items that you can repurpose. For example, mixing new furniture purchases with existing furniture can refresh an entire area — without replacing everything.

You can also repair existing items, such as classical furniture, to refresh a space without excessive purchasing. In addition, focusing on areas that are the most visible, such as conference rooms where you meet with clients, can be an efficient way to delegate funds more effectively.

Simple elements, such as natural lighting, also affect your space. In fact, people have been found to be more efficient, happier and more productive when working in spaces with more natural lighting. Find new ways to let in natural light to refresh the areas — without additional purchases.
